Great turnout for Illuminations Festival despite weather

Looking at the weather forecast for last Saturday, the organisers of last Saturday’s Illuminations Festival were expecting a low turnout for the event. As it eventuated, an estimated 15,000 people braved the wet and the wind and came down to take part in the festivities.

With 250 floating multicoloured lanterns as well as hundreds (600 to be precise) floating white LED lights in the Wading Pool, the stage was set for the spectacular fireworks display which rounded off the evening.

With the entertainment from both the main stage on the side of the Wading Pool and the Republic of Wynnum stage in the market area, plus around 30 food stalls to cater to every taste, dreamsphere ball ‘riders’ and some spectacularly lit stiltwalkers, there was something for everyone on the night.

Among the art/craft/ clothing stalls was the stall for Connecting Light, a locally based company producing stunning lit artworks/lamps (their stall pictured here).

If you enjoyed the night out and would like a lasting memento of the festival, there are still a small number of the floating lanterns that were in the Wading Pool available for purchase from the Illuminations Festival website – if you’d like to reserve your lantern/s visit this page…
