New community centre opens its doors

Last Saturday morning Brisbane City Council opened the doors of the new Community Centre located in the old red brick school building on the site of the old Wynnum Central School.

The refurbishment has kept the essence of the old school, with some new facilities, including a lift. Nine community organisations will now call the Community Centre home, including WynnumCentral Members Wynnum Family Day Care.

Included in the refurb is a small art gallery and the original stage and performance area has been retained.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk was on hand to officially open the new centre, although WynnumCentral understands that there is still some work to do and that tenants will be moved in by early in the New Year.

The Community Centre certainly looks smart and is an asset to Florence Street. It’s just a shame it has taken such a long time to do the necessary refurbishment work and get the centre functioning for Wynnum.
