Wynnum gets a new free weekly newspaper

Yesterday (1st February) marked the launch of the first free weekly newspaper in the Wynnum area since the Wynnum Herald announced the end of its print edition getting on four years ago.

There is of course The Community Leader which launched at almost exactly the same time the Herald pulled the pin but, unlike the Wynnum Herald, The Community Leader is a monthly publication, not a weekly one.

Operated by Local News Group, the new Bayside News joins a stable of other locally-focused publications including Redland City News and Local Ipswich News.

The group plans to distribute 10,000 copies of the paper every week  in the local area, including in Lytton, Wynnum, Manly/Manly West, Wynnum West, Lota, Tingalpa, Belmont, Ransome, Wakerley, Gumdale and Hemmant.

The first edition is 28 pages and includes a number of ‘standard’ newspaper features from TV listings, a What’s On section, an invitation to write letters to the Editor, to gardening, car, classifieds and sport sections.

The newspaper feels as if it is pitched to an older demographic, but that’s a smart move as this group is the one that most keenly felt the loss of the Wynnum Herald print edition. However, if you really want to, you can also read the newspaper online here or here!

What do you think of the new paper – do you like it?
