Ian is a cornerstone of Wynnum Central

Situated on the busy corner of Bay Terrace and Edith Street is an unassuming entrance that many Wynnum locals may have walked passed countless times without noticing that it is the entrance to Ian K Fry and Company Solicitors.

The practice has been established in the Wynnum area since 1981 providing a range of services including commercial and business, conveyancing and wills and estates. Ian doesn’t take on criminal or family law cases but has regular estate litigation in the Supreme Court.

Ian himself was admitted to practise as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1979 and is a Solicitor of the High Court of Australia where he has had a few case cases end up, although without the need to go to Canberra.

Ian has lived in the Wynnum area for many years meeting his wife and raising their family with their children proudly going to local schools. He remembers old Wynnum that had “a country town atmosphere” where you got to know everyone. Whilst still knowing many of the regular traders, the influx of new blood has changed the opportunity to get to know all the locals, however he says ”we do have some fourth generation families that we have done business with, our oldest client being 104”.

He loves Bayside living with the cool breezes providing as Ian describes, “natural air-conditioning” in the summer months. A keen boatie and swimmer, the Bayside is the natural place for him to live and work. Ian doesn’t see he is missing out from not having a City office apart from some of the larger commercial work with Brisbane CBD based organisations, but he feels he gains so much in return from having a local suburban practice.

Ian is encouraged by the residential development he can see happening in Wynnum and sees this as a way to grow the area and help create more business for the retailers in Wynnum Central. Together with his family they enjoy local community events including the inaugural Illuminations Festival, even camping out in their car park to see the lantern parade go past. “It seemed to last a long time” says Ian “and is a good new event to see in Wynnum.”

And after over 33 years in the heart of Wynnum Central Ian is well placed to see many more community events and the area flourish.

Ian K Fry & Co are members of WynnumCentral.
