State election – what it means for Wynnum

There are under three weeks to go until the Queensland State Election on Saturday 31st January, and WynnumCentral plans to quiz all of the candidates on what they would do to help Wynnum, and specifically the Wynnum Central shopping area, should they be elected.

At this point there are only four candidates contesting the election, the sitting member, LNP’s Neil Symes, Joan Pease for Labor, Dave Nelson for the Greens and independent candidates Tamera Michel and Jamie Evans.

In the 2012 election a swing of 13.8% away from Labor saw that party unseated in Lytton for the first time ever. The LNP currently holds the seat with a margin of 1.6%, so anything is possible!

PS there will be a Candidates Debate at Wynnum Baptist Church in Kianawah Road Tuesday 13th January at 7pm.

  1. Jamie Evans, Joan Pease, Tamera Michel, Dave Nelson, Neil Symes. Apart from Neil, who are these people? I have not met them, have not seen them around. What are their policies? Calling an early election is NOT a good thing.

  2. Hi Rose,

Thanks for taking an interest in the upcoming election. Allow me to introduce myself, I am a local, a working mum and my husband is a local tradesman. I am new to politics and only decided to run 12 days ago, but in those 12 days I have accomplished a lot. When the election was called I looked at the candidates and realised no one was standing up for the hardworking families in this electorate and I decided to do something about it. Regardless of the short time frame I am trying to get out and speak to as many locals as I can so they know I am willing to fight for what Lytton deserves. My key priorities are:

    • Upgrade to Lindum railway level crossing
    • Tackling petty crime & vandalism
    • Improving Child Healthcare
